OVERVIEW

On Saturday, June 27, 2026, voters in Avoyelles Parish will consider the renewal of three separate tax propositions related to funding for the school system. These local taxes are one of the primary ways Louisiana’s school systems fund their operations and maintain facilities.

THESE ARE NOT NEW TAXES.

All three propositions on the ballot represent the renewal of existing taxes.

1/2 cent Sales Tax Renewal

This dedicated ½-cent sales tax supports the school system’s budget for day-to-day operations and essential district needs. These funds help support important functions that allow our schools to operate effectively each day, including utilities, facility upgrades, maintenance and repairs, instructional technology, classroom resources, and athletic equipment and programs. This funding is generated through purchases of goods and services within Avoyelles Parish. When purchases are made locally, or when online orders are delivered to an address in Avoyelles Parish, a portion of the local sales tax collected helps support students, staff, and schools across the parish.

PROPOSITION 1 - Special Maintenance (5mill) Renewal
This millage supports the school system’s budget for day-to-day operations and maintenance. These funds help support essential functions that allow our schools to operate each day, including maintaining safe and functional facilities, utilities, transportation-related operations, and the staffing necessary to support students and schools across the parish.
PROPOSITION 2 - General Fund (5mill) Renewal
This millage supports long-term investments in salaries, safety & security, instructional supplies, school facilities, including construction, renovations, and major improvements needed to maintain and enhance learning environments across the district.
