AVAP receives donations from APAC

We would like to thank Mrs. Kristy Lachney, Mrs. Brenda Wilmer, and her staff at the APAC office in Marksville for the wonderful school supplies purchased for the students and faculty at the Avoyelles Virtual Alternative Program in Hessmer.

The APAC office is a non-profit agency that offers energy assistance to those who are eligible to help pay electric and gas utility bills. They serve the Avoyelles Parish and Pointe Coupee Parish areas for the Utility Energy Assistance. They also offer monthly distribution of commodities (food boxes) to the elderly, disabled, or low income families who qualify in Avoyelles Parish only.

May God bless the staff at APAC for the much needed supplies that were given.

School Zone Reminders

We are so excited to welcome our new crossing guards to Lafargue Elementary School and Bunkie High School. Please remember to slow down in our school zones. It is also important to remember that it is unlawful to use wireless telecommunications, including cell phones, in a school zone. The fines begin at $500 (Louisiana Revised Statutes Tit. 32, § 300.8) and it could create a dangerous situation for our students, as well as our adults. Thank you for working with us to make sure our campuses are safe.

Mask Update for the Avoyelles Public Schools

Effective October 28, 2021, (tomorrow), wearing masks in the Avoyelles Public Schools will be optional. Masks will still be required on our buses because we are under a Federal mask mandate for transportation, until January 2022. Masks will be available on our buses and in our schools.

We will continue to watch our COVID numbers carefully. We will also continue our quarantine procedures. If our COVID numbers increase, we will review our position on masks. Please understand this is a fluid situation and we will make every effort to ensure our students’ safety.
Thank you for working with us to ensure our students have the best possible learning environment.
