EMPLOYEE DRESS CODE

 

 

Employee dress and grooming shall not detract from the learning/educational environment of students' participation in classes, school programs or other school-related activities.  Extremes in style and fit in employee dress and extremes in style of grooming will not be permitted.  No employee shall wear, possess, use, distribute, display or sell any clothing, jewelry, emblem, blade, symbols, sign or other things which are evidence of affiliation with drugs, alcohol, violence or gang related activities.

 

It is the intent of the Avoyelles Parish School Board that its employees’ dress code policy promotes and enhances professionalism among personnel and set them apart from the student body of the school.

 

The principal and/or supervisor may grant permission for personnel to deviate from this code on special occasions or under certain extenuating circumstances.

 

CERTIFICATED PERSONNEL

 

It is the policy of the Avoyelles Parish School Board than an employee dress code shall promote and enhance professionalism among instructional personnel and set them apart from the student body of the school.

 

  1. Appropriate sleeveless dresses/blouses are allowed (no see-throughs).
     

  2. Capri type pants, cropped pants, and culottes, and other similar attire are allowed.  
     

  3. Short pants of any type are unacceptable.
     

  4. Sweat suits, wind suits, and jogging suits are not allowed.
     

  5. Physical education teachers are allowed to wear shorts at or below knee level only during such times as they are actually instructing students in physical education or performing related duties.  Other than physical education instruction, physical education teachers are required to wear appropriate outer wear.
     

  6. Due to the nature of their jobs and for safety reasons, agriculture teachers and industrial arts teachers may wear blue denim jeans.
     

  7. Male teachers are encouraged to wear neckties.
     

  8. Dress shirts without collars are acceptable.
     

  9. Casual or dress shoes must be worn by all employees.  Beach type flip-flops, swim shoes, house shoes, slippers, or crocs are not appropriate for any employee.
     

  10. Employees must wear appropriate footwear with all shoes.
     

  11. Leggings are not acceptable.
     

  12. Support personnel who work with special needs students are allowed to wear scrubs.
     

  13. School nurses will wear nurse uniforms.
     

  14. Food service employees will wear food service uniforms.
     

  15. Bus drivers, bus attendants, maintenance personnel, and custodians are allowed to wear walking shorts, shirts, coveralls, jumpsuits, blue denim jeans, and tennis shoes. Walking shorts must be worn at or below knee length when standing.
     

  16. Spirit shirts/t-shirts are acceptable on days designated by the principal.  Blue denim jeans without holes and tennis shoes are also acceptable on days designated by the principal.
     

  17. Opening and closing days (without students) are designated as casual days by district-level management.
     

  18. All substitutes (in any capacity) shall be subject to the employee dress code.

 

Determination of appropriate, modest, and/or professional dress shall be made by the school principal.
